Safety

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the GMC Hummer EV SUV are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The BMW X5 xDrive45e doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Both the Hummer EV SUV and X5 xDrive45e have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Hummer EV SUV has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The X5 xDrive45e’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Both the Hummer EV SUV and the X5 xDrive45e have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

GMC’s powertrain warranty covers the Hummer EV SUV 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than BMW covers the X5 xDrive45e. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the X5 xDrive45e ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 5 times as many GMC dealers as there are BMW dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Hummer EV SUV’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that GMC vehicles are better in initial quality than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks GMC above average in initial quality. With 25 more problems per 100 vehicles, BMW is rated lower.

The Hummer EV SUV’s standard electric motors produces 236 more horsepower (625 vs. 389) and 6957 lbs.-ft. more torque (7400 vs. 443) than the X5 xDrive45e’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid. The Hummer EV SUV 3X’s standard electric motors produces 441 more horsepower (830 vs. 389) and 11057 lbs.-ft. more torque (11500 vs. 443) than the X5 xDrive45e’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Hummer EV SUV with its standard motors gets better mileage than the X5 xDrive45e running on electricity (59 city/48 hwy vs. 47 city/54 hwy MPGe).

The Hummer EV SUV can travel with zero emissions on a full charge for 298 to 314 miles. The X5 xDrive45e has to start its internal combustion engine after only 31 miles.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the GMC Hummer EV SUV higher (10 out of 10) than the BMW X5 xDrive45e (7). This means the Hummer EV SUV produces up to 11.8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the X5 xDrive45e every 15,000 miles.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Hummer EV SUV has larger tires than the X5 xDrive45e (305/55R22 vs. 265/50R19). The Hummer EV SUV’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the X5 xDrive45e (305/55R22 vs. 275/40R21).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Hummer EV SUV has standard 22-inch wheels. The X5 xDrive45e’s largest wheels are only 21-inches.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the GMC Hummer EV SUV has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the X5 xDrive45e.

The Hummer EV SUV has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The X5 xDrive45e doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
