The Enclave has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Voyager doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Buick Enclave achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Chrysler Voyager has not been tested.

The Enclave has a standard HD Surround Vision to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Voyager only offers a rear monitor and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the front or sides.

The Buick Enclave’s rear backup camera has a standard washer for maintaining a clear view under various conditions. In contrast, the Chrysler Voyager does not offer a rear camera washer, meaning its effectiveness relies on manual cleaning by the user when necessary.

Both the Enclave and Voyager have rear cross-traffic warning, but the Enclave has Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Voyager’s Rear Cross Path Detection doesn’t automatically brake.

The Enclave’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Voyager doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

The Enclave has standard OnStar®, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get turn-by-turn driving directions, remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Voyager doesn’t offer a GPS response system, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Enclave and the Voyager have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available all wheel drive.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Buick Enclave is safer than the Chrysler Voyager:

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety does 40 MPH moderate front offset crash tests on new cars. In this updated test, results indicate that the Enclave is much safer than the Voyager:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Buick Enclave is safer than the Chrysler Voyager:

Side impacts caused 23% of all road fatalities in 2018, down from 29% in 2003, when the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety introduced its side barrier test. In order to continue improving vehicle safety, the IIHS has started using a more severe side impact test: 37 MPH (up from 31 MPH), with a 4180-pound barrier (up from 3300 pounds). The results of this newly developed test demonstrates that the Buick Enclave is safer than the Voyager:

The Buick Enclave has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2025 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and an “Acceptable” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The Voyager is not even a standard “Top Safety Pick” for 2025.

Warranty

The Enclave’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Voyager’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Reliability

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Enclave has a standard 220-amp alternator. The Voyager’s 180-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Enclave’s reliability 13 points higher than the Voyager.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Buick vehicles are better in initial quality than Chrysler vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Buick above average in initial quality. With 30 more problems per 100 vehicles, Chrysler is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Buick vehicles are more reliable than Chrysler vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Buick second in reliability, above the industry average. With 139 more problems per 100 vehicles, Chrysler is ranked 34th.

Engine

The Enclave’s 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 41 more horsepower (328 vs. 287) and 64 lbs.-ft. more torque (326 vs. 262) than the Voyager’s 3.6 DOHC V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Enclave AWD’s standard fuel tank has 2.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the Voyager (21.7 vs. 19 gallons).

The Enclave has a standard locking fuel door which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the Voyager. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Buick Enclave higher (6 out of 10) than the Chrysler Voyager (5). This means the Enclave produces up to 6.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Voyager every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

For more complete vehicle control the Enclave has Shiftronic, with the available convenience of an automatic transmission and the complete gear control of a manual transmission without the inconvenience of a clutch. Shiftronic allows the driver to eliminate unwanted shifts and maximize engine braking by down shifting while cornering. The Voyager doesn’t offer a transmission that allows complete gear control.

Brakes and Stopping

The Enclave’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Voyager are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Enclave has larger standard tires than the Voyager (255/55R20 vs. 235/65R17). The Enclave’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Voyager (275/45R22 vs. 235/65R17).

The Enclave’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Voyager’s standard 65 series tires. The Enclave’s optional tires have a lower 45 series profile than the Voyager’s 65 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Enclave has standard 20-inch wheels. Only 17-inch wheels are available on the Voyager. The Enclave offers optional 22-inch wheels.

The Buick Enclave’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Chrysler Voyager only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Enclave has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Voyager; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The Enclave has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Enclave flat and controlled during cornering. The Voyager’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

The Enclave offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Voyager’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For better maneuverability, the Enclave’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the Voyager’s (39 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

Chassis

The Enclave uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Voyager doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The Enclave has 2.5 inches more front headroom, 3.2 inches more front legroom, .4 inches more rear headroom and 2.5 inches more rear legroom than the Voyager.

Cargo Capacity

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the Enclave’s optional second row seats and pressing a switch automatically lowers or raises the third row seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Voyager doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Enclave’s liftgate can be opened just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Voyager doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Towing

The Enclave’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Voyager’s (5000 vs. 3600 pounds).

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Enclave uses the StabiliTrak® sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Voyager doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Servicing Ease

The Enclave uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Voyager uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Buick service is better than Chrysler. J.D. Power ranks Buick 9th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 20% lower rating, Chrysler is ranked 24th.

Ergonomics

When two different drivers share the Enclave, the optional memory system makes it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle. The Voyager doesn’t offer a memory system.

The Enclave’s optional easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Voyager doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Enclave offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, navigation instruction, infotainment and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Voyager doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

On a hot day the Enclave’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Voyager can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Enclave’s LED headlights produce a whiter, brighter light (up to 3x) using five times less power than the Voyager’s halogen headlights. LED lights also light instantly and last over twenty times longer than halogen.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The Enclave’s headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the Voyager’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the Enclave detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The Voyager doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Enclave Avenir has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Voyager doesn’t offer cornering lights.

When the Enclave with available tilt-down mirrors is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Voyager’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Enclave’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Voyager doesn’t offer the luxury of automatic dimming mirrors.

Both the Buick Enclave and Chrysler Voyager offer exterior mirrors that can be folded to provide convenience. The Enclave features standard power folding mirrors, which allow for easy, one-touch folding or unfolding at the driver’s discretion. This provides added convenience when maneuvering or parking, as well as when walking past the parked vehicle. In comparison, the Voyager’s foldable mirrors are manual, requiring the driver to get out and physically fold them once parked and unfold them before getting in.

Both the Enclave and the Voyager have standard heated front seats. The Enclave Avenir also has standard heated second row seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated second row seats aren’t available in the Voyager.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the Enclave Avenir keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Voyager doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Enclave has a standard center folding armrest for the middle row passengers. A center armrest helps make middle row passengers more comfortable and it can provide a boundary between children. The Voyager doesn’t offer a middle row seat center armrest.

The Enclave Avenir has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Voyager.

To direct the driver from any location to a given street address, a GPS navigation system is standard on the Enclave. The Enclave’s navigation system also has a real-time traffic update feature that offers alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The Voyager doesn’t offer a navigation system.

With standard Natural Voice Recognition, the Enclave offers the driver hands free control of the radio, climate controls and the navigation computer by simply speaking. The Voyager doesn’t offer a voice control system.

Compared to the Chrysler Voyager, the Buick Enclave eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries with its optional integrated Homelink® universal remote controlled from the infotainment system.

The Enclave’s optional Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Voyager doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Recommendations

Consumer Reports® recommends both the Buick Enclave and the Chrysler Voyager, based on reliability, safety and performance.
